📅 March 1st through March 15th: Yampatika Ski With a Naturalist
Take a run during this free program that takes place on Steamboat Ski Area; however, it does not include a lift ticket. Meet at the Why Not trailhead at the top of the Gondola at Steamboat Ski Resort on Tuesday and Thursday through March 15.
📅 March 1st: Moonlight Snowshoe on Emerald Mountain
Hosted by Yampatika around 5:30 p.m. Explore the beauty and history of Emerald Mountain under the full moon. This tour is for ages 18 and up. Cost is $20 and includes snowshoes. Space is limited and registration is required by calling (970) 871-9151. Exact starting time is confirmed when you register.
📅 March 1st: Free Film, "Saving Snow"
From 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. The Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council present a new film by Adaptation Now, a documentary about communities dealing with the leading edge of climate change. Across the country, people who depend on winter for their livelihood are feeling the heat. On the sidelines of skiing and snowboarding, an epic struggle to reverse rising temperatures is unfolding. Ski towns and the snow sport industry are paving the way toward a clean energy future. This is a free film and open to all ages.
📅 March 2nd and March 9th: Free Snowshoe Tour at Fish Creek Falls
From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This tour is offered weekly through March 16. Join Yampatika for a moderately strenuous snowshoe tour along the breathtaking Fish Creek Canyon. This tour is for ages 12 and up. The snowshoe tour is a free program; however, registration is required. Please call (970) 871-9151 to register.
📅 March 2nd and March 9th: Fun Friday Nights
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Gondola Square. Enjoy an evening of excitement including night skiing, rides on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster, and different activities and entertainment each week with a DJ dance party. Then enjoy a variety show to impress the whole family, featuring a magical rabbit and dove, knife juggling, and more. The grand finale is at 7:30 with Friday night fireworks.
📅 March 2nd: First Friday Artwalk in Downtown Steamboat Springs
A self-guided tour of local art galleries, museums, and alternative venues in downtown Steamboat Springs. These businesses remain open the first Friday of every month for this favorite event of locals and visitors alike. Free to the public, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments are served.
📅 March 3rd: Steamboat Pentathlon
From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The 27th Annual Steamboat Pentathlon will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2018. This event is hosted annually by the City of Steamboat Springs Parks and Community Services Department. The five-stage, multi-sport race includes Alpine Skiing/Riding, Snowshoeing, XC Skiing, Mountain Biking, and Running. Standard and Short Courses are available. The event begins and ends at Howelsen Hill, 845 Howelsen Parkway, and can be competed in the individual, team, and duo categories. All participants receive an event t-shirt and lunch and will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win great prizes from local businesses.
📅 March 3rd through March 17th: Yampatika Snowshoe Tour on Emerald Mountain
Ride the chairlift up historic Howelsen Hill to enjoy spectacular views of the Yampa Valley, and to learn winter ecology provided by a Yampatika guide. This tour is for ages 12 and up. Cost is $20 and includes snowshoes and a lift ticket. Registration is required. Please call (970) 871-9151 to register.
📅 March 3rd: Free Concert at the Base of Steamboat Ski Area
From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with Donovan Frankenreiter. The Southern California native was a protégé of fellow surf rock musician Jack Johnson prior to embarking on his solo career. Among his albums are "Move by Yourself" (2006) and "Glow" (2010).
📅 March 3rd: Family Fun Night
From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chief Theater. We're Not Clowns have been delighting audiences across the globe for over 20 years with their family friendly blend of comedy and zany antics. Tickets are $10 for kids and $15 for adults, available online here.
📅 March 4th: Ski Free Sundays at Howelsen Hill
From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ski for free every Sunday at historic Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs. Ski the same trails as Steamboat Olympians just steps from downtown. It's as easy as simply stopping into the lodge to pick up your free ticket, which is required to access the ski lifts and the Nordic trails on these special Ski Free Sundays.
📅 March 4th: Cool Dual Bike Race
Steamboat Ski Resort presents a one-of-a-kind bike race down the slippery slopes of Mt. Werner. Riders will brave the cold and frozen snow in head-to-head battles. Registration is $20 (cash or check only, event capped to the first 100 entrants) and includes your number plate, burger, beer, shirt, and swag. Classes available are Junior Yet-he (17 and under), Master Yet-he (40+), Yet-he's (Open Age Men), and Yet-She's (Open Age Women). This event is open to the public for ages 10 and up. 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Registration and racer check-in at the Competition Services Office
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Practice
12:00 p.m.: Qualifying (dual course, combined time)
1:00 p.m.: Finals
3:30 p.m.: Awards at the Bear River Pub & Grill
📅 March 4th: Moonshine Ski and Dine
From 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Howelsen Hill. Join Rocky Mountain Youth Corps for its 12th annual Moonshine Ski and Dine fundraiser and help celebrate 25 years. This year's event will offer a unique mix of world-class cross-country skiing or snowshoeing under the full moon, paired with a great social evening of food, drinks, and a sensational silent auction. The evening will deliver good times with friends and dedicates all funds raised to our local Youth Programs and Yampa Valley Science School. The event ticket includes Nordic skiing and snowshoeing under the moon's glow on the world-famous Nordic ski trails at Howelsen Hill.
