Steamboat Springs is the place to be this Labor Day weekend, as the town offers a variety of exciting events for anyone who loves the mountains. Whether you're coming to town to enjoy the crisp air, challenge yourself in a bike race, or take in the western heritage, you won't be disappointed. Here is a list of our most favorite events happening this weekend.
The Rocky Mountain P.B.R. Bull Bash
The Bull Bash is taking place on Sunday, September 4, at Brent Romick Arena between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. This is a great way to enjoy the holiday weekend, as the event is fun, action-packed, and perfect for the whole family. Gates open at 3:00 p.m., and the public is encouraged to get to the venue early to secure good seats. This thrilling event brings 40 of the top professional bull riders in the world to Steamboat to compete for over $15,000 in prize money.
Wild West Air Fest
The 12th annual Wild West Air Fest is scheduled for Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is one of the most anticipated events of the summer and is rightfully considered the best air show in the mountains. It features nationally renowned pilots providing edge-of-the-seat excitement as they perform thrilling aerobatics and formation flying.
Some of the highlights this year include the GoPro Bomb Squad Wingsuit Jump Team, the WWII Navy Torpedo Bomber TBM-3 Avenger performing a bombing simulation, the Rocky Mountain Renegades with their 7-ship formation team, national performer Barry Hancock in his WWII T-6, professional air show performer Bob Freeman in his Extra 330C, and international aerobatics champion Dagmar Kress.
An exciting part of the Wild West Air Fest is that you can be part of the action and fly in these amazing aircraft. Plane rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday and Sunday.
Steamboat Stage Race
Three days of road bike racing will again draw racers from across the Rocky Mountain region to Steamboat Springs over Labor Day weekend. The event offers a variety of age- and ability-based categories with three race stages that include a time trial, road race, and criterium.
The 8th annual Steamboat Stage Race starts on Saturday, September 3, with Stage 1, which will test riders' ability to push high speeds and maximize aerodynamics over a 22-kilometer course with minimal climbing and wide shoulders.
Stage 2, the Moots Road Race, happens on Sunday and again takes riders to the quiet roads west of town, featuring a number of challenging climbs, fast descents, and a start/finish from downtown Steamboat Springs.
On Monday, September 5, the action comes to town on a fast and wide course with Stage 3, the Ski & Bike Kare Criterium.
